iNAP is a new oral negative pressure device for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea in adults. The system uses a soft, flexible mouthpiece, thin tubing, and a quiet battery-powered console the size of a smartphone to deliver a light, oral vacuum during sleep to comfortably keep the airway open while breathing normally through the nose.
Recently the company has signed the agreement with NASA’s JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) in the second half of 2020 for the manufacturing of VITAL (Ventilator Intervention Technology Accessible Locally) in Taiwan. Somnics is NASA/JPL’s only licensed manufacturer of the VITAL Ventilator in the Greater China area
In the early summer of 2021, the COVID-19 spread worsened in Taiwan, with daily infections surging and the number of severe cases rising. Medical resources, negative pressure wards, medical personnel and ventilators were strained and the medical system faced an unprecedented challenge. At this juncture, Somnics decided to allocate resources to the manufacturing of VITAL Ventilators. Somnics’ VITAL team leveraged the strengths of Taiwan by integrating the technology prowess and supply chain flexibility in the ICT industry and ensured both efficiency and quality within a tight schedule. The development of the Somnics VITAL was completed within a short period of three months as an immediate contribution to the fight against COVID-19.
