Xerox Research Centre India Wins Ecosystem Enablement – Universities Award

xerox_logoXerox Research Centre India (XRCI), Xerox’s newest global research centre focusing on emerging market innovation, has been honored with the prestigious Zinnov award in the category of Ecosystem Enablement – Universities.

This award is given to companies that have contributed significantly to the overall research and development ecosystem in India. Award nominees were judged on five key areas: objectives, breadth and depth of relationships, innovative collaboration mechanisms, investment and metrics. An independent jury selected Xerox taking into account the many new research projects, grants and patents undertaken between Xerox and leading universities across India.

On successful example is healthcare research Xerox is conducted in collaboration with Manipal University and St. John’s Medical College. The project is on remote sensing technology and detection of body vitals in neo natal babies and will impact the future of healthcare across the globe.

“The success and the commercial viability of this healthcare sensing research project will have great implications for the future of healthcare not just in India but across the globe.  It’s an honor to have this and other Xerox’s initiatives in the field of open innovation and collaborative researches recognized,” said Manish Gupta, vice president and director, XRCI. “Working in close alliance with academia, we gain talent, contemporary ideas and expertise that help us develop pioneering solutions in the domain of healthcare, banking and transportation. It is a win-win situation for everyone.”

XRCI currently is working closely with a number of universities and academic institutes including Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur & Bombay, Manipal University, St. John’s Medical College, Sai Vidya Institute of Technology (SVIT) and several others. These projects are essentially in technical areas like machine learning, game theory and mechanism design, cloud computing, and include development of novel solutions in healthcare and education.
