A global technology company that has been innovating in storage for years, Toshiba offers a comprehensive portfolio of HDD products that address the storage needs of enterprise, datacenter, surveillance, and client markets. Toshiba solves customer challenges with innovative HDD models. In an interaction with NCN Magazine, Mr. Polad Garda, Country Head of Toshiba India, shares about the range of Toshiba HDDs, their market strategy and future plans for India.
Please brief us about Toshiba’s HDD range?
We offer the entire range of Toshiba HDDs for mobile drives, laptops, desktops, NAS drives for NAS boxes, and surveillance drives for surveillance solutions, and high-end near-line and storage devices for the enterprise division.
Which segments are of focus to your products?
We see a major demand coming from the surveillance segment which has been growing at a rapid pace in India. We are getting orders from the government departments which are among our important clients. In the enterprise, cloud and data center segments, we are finding a great opportunity. We are also getting good demand for HDDs in laptops and PCs in the consumer segment.
What new technology is coming up in the storage space?
Today, the storage capacity of the HDDs has increased enormously, which was unimaginable a decade back. As of now, we have seen 18TB, and 20TB drives for the enterprise segment. In the next couple of years, the capacities are expected to increase several-fold driven by new technologies.
What opportunity do you see in the India’s consumer and surveillance segments?
The Indian market no doubt is a big market for us. In the laptop space upgrades have not been much right now, but the surveillance and enterprises surely offer us a big opportunity for us. Toshiba has come up with special and highly reliable storage products for surveillance segment where capturing clear footage is of particular importance. We have researched and engineered best-in-class technology in all the storage segments we are focusing on.
How do you position yourself in the SSD storage industry?
Many people don’t know that Toshiba is the inventor of the FLASH, but due to several reasons today we are not strongly present in the SSD segment. Maybe in the future, we might bring them back to the market.
Please brief us about Toshiba’s distribution policy and how Toshiba supports its partners?
We hold regular training programs and one-to-one interactions with the partners in the country. During the pandemic time too, we had a lot of Zoom calls, conferences, and team calls where we gave awareness to partners about our product portfolio and market policies. We have tied up with Rajshree and Balaji for distribution in India.
What message would you like to give to your audience?
Tough times like lockdowns also opened new opportunities for partners and brands. Currently, there are challenges regarding logistics and supplies. Of course, these issues are common to many industries, not only for IT or storage. We need to plan properly to face changing situations; and during tough times discover new opportunities because every challenge comes with hidden opportunities.
