Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA Mumbai), founded in 1970, drives Taiwan–India trade through innovation, exhibitions, and partnerships. During an exclusive interaction with NCN Magazine, Mr. Vic Lin, Director, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA Mumbai), shares insights on boosting Taiwan–India trade collaboration through innovation, AI, and exhibitions.
Could you briefly introduce TAITRA and its core mission?
TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) is primarily focused on promoting and strengthening trade between Taiwan and the world. At present, India is one of our key focus markets, along with a few other growing global economies. Our role is to support both Taiwanese and Indian businesses by enabling stronger collaboration, trade engagement, and industrial partnerships.
What kind of initiatives does TAITRA undertake to support trade between Taiwan and India?
Every year, TAITRA actively organizes and participates in multiple trade-related activities in both Taiwan and India. On one side, we bring Taiwanese business delegations to India to explore opportunities and expand partnerships. On the other side, we invite Indian companies to visit Taiwan and participate in our world-class exhibitions. This creates a strong two-way platform where businesses from both nations can connect and grow together.
Which Taiwan trade shows do you recommend for Indian businesses?
Taiwan hosts some of the most well-known and influential trade exhibitions globally. For Indian companies, we highly recommend shows such as COMPUTEX, Taipei Cycle, Machine Tool Show, and TAITRONICS. These exhibitions represent Taiwan’s strong industries and innovation capabilities. They are excellent for Indian enterprises who want to explore high-quality products, reliable manufacturing, and global technology trends.
How is Taiwan integrating AI into industries and COMPUTEX?
AI is definitely transforming every industry, and Taiwan is aligned strongly with this evolution. This year, COMPUTEX Taipei, which will be organized in June, will have a major focus on AI technologies, AI devices, and AI-driven solutions. It will be a great opportunity for Indian companies to experience the newest AI developments directly from Taiwan’s ecosystem.
What makes COMPUTEX 2026 even more special for Indian visitors?
COMPUTEX is not just about products—it’s about future-ready innovation. Along with COMPUTEX, we have InnoVEX, which is held concurrently. InnoVEX is a fantastic platform for discovering emerging innovations, start-ups, and next-gen AI applications. For Indian businesses, this combination offers a strong chance to understand the latest AI direction and evaluate how these solutions can be adopted or integrated into Indian industry.
How does TAITRA help Indian companies who want to visit Taiwan for exhibitions?
Indian companies should definitely not miss these opportunities. We encourage them to connect with us for information and support. TAITRA helps companies plan visits to Taiwan exhibitions, explore supplier networks, and meet relevant industries. We can assist in connecting Indian buyers and businesses with Taiwanese suppliers to build genuine long-term partnerships.
How does TAITRA promote Taiwanese brands and awareness in India?
Promoting Taiwanese companies in India is a continuous effort. One key initiative is participation in major Indian exhibitions where we create a Taiwan Pavilion. Through this pavilion, we bring multiple Taiwanese companies together under one platform, allowing them to showcase products and explore partnerships in India. We also ensure Taiwanese delegations visit India to understand market needs and connect with Indian trade communities.
Which kinds of trade shows in India does TAITRA participate in?
Each year, TAITRA and Taiwanese companies explore various exhibitions and conferences globally. In India, we participate in important shows and industry platforms such as automation expos, conventions, and other well-recognized exhibitions depending on industry relevance. These platforms help Taiwanese companies directly engage with Indian partners and strengthen presence in the Indian market.
Can you tell us about the Taiwan Excellence initiative and how it benefits Indian markets?
Taiwan Excellence is a very important program. Every year, Taiwan selects top innovative brands through the Taiwan Excellence Awards, and TAITRA supports these brands by promoting them internationally—including in India. In many leading Indian trade shows, you will find the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion, where premium Taiwanese brands showcase their best offerings. This has significantly increased brand visibility and trust for Taiwan-made products in India.
What makes India such a strong priority market for Taiwan today?
India has become one of the world’s strongest economies, now ranked among the top globally. Earlier, Taiwan’s industries mainly focused on America and Europe. However, the global market is shifting and India has become a very promising opportunity—especially due to the growth in demand, industrial expansion, and supportive policies like Make in India. Many Taiwanese companies are now looking for Indian partners and even setting up factories in India.
Which industries are showing growing Taiwan–India collaboration beyond IT?
While IT has always been a major area, today collaboration is expanding into multiple industries including auto parts, machinery, textiles, and advanced manufacturing. Taiwanese companies are looking at India not only as a market but also as a strategic base for regional production and expansion.
What message would you like to share with Indian companies?
This is the perfect time for Indian businesses to explore Taiwan. You can either visit Taiwan to attend exhibitions like COMPUTEX or join our Taiwan pavilions in India. Both ways will help you discover high-quality Taiwanese products, advanced technology trends, and strong partnership opportunities. TAITRA is always available to support Indian companies in expanding their global business through Taiwan.
