Mr. Arnav Mutneja, Director, Quantum Hi-Tech, during an interaction with NCN Magazine, explains Quantum’s focus on the present and future market opportunities in India, their brand’s policy and future plans. Founded in 1992, based in Delhi, Quantum Hi-Tech is one of the pioneering lifestyle and consumer technology brands in the country that offers world-class computer, mobile and personal care accessories. With a mission to make electronic items utilitarian for consumers who value quality, Quantum Hi-Tech has pan-India service and support outlets.
What are the key focus areas of Quantum?
In line with the needs of the consumers, we are entering wireless category and will bring out products with longer battery life. We see a great opportunity in the education sector where there is a rapid penetration of Internet-enabled devices and increasing use of tablets. We also see a great opportunity in office supplies space where there is a great demand for note counting machines, paper shredders, electronic stationery, card readers, etc. We are focusing on all these areas.

What opportunities and trends do you see in the gaming sector & WFH in India?
Cutting-edge technology products embedded with great design and quality are Quantum’s USPs. Laptop cooling pads with adjustable height feature are in good demand; and with the growing WFH trend, the router UPS or 1 Outer UPS systems are in demand. The Quantum QHM-660 12V UPS helps users to stay connected to the Internet at all times as this UPS for routers provides long hours of power supply whenever there is a power disruption. With an intelligent battery management system, it self-charges when the power is back. In IT, we have two categories: The first category is of portable devices like wireless accessories like cooling pads, routers, etc which saw a spike in demand during the pandemic. The second is Mini PC category. Our journey from an offline manufacturing company to an online retailer has been one of the watershed phases as we witnessed phenomenal growth to establish strong business verticals.
How do you see the gaming segment?
Continuous technological advancements in the gaming industry are propelling the industry’s growth and redefining the way games are created and played offering a superior gaming experience to the users. Game developers are continually striving to enhance the gaming experience by creating more innovative games. Gaming market is niche where audiences are loyal to the brands. In the future, we will invest more into providing gaming products such as gaming pads, keyboards and mice.
What challenges do you see?
Short supply of semiconductors and the significant increases in the freight costs on imports are among the major challenges today. It is anticipated that these issues will last the entire 2022. Hopefully, by the end of the year, shipping lines are expected to be streamlined and that the access to electronics to improve.
How do you see the opportunities in Make in India?
India is transitioning into a manufacturing hub by designing, developing and manufacturing IT, electronics and telecom devices, at a rapid pace. The demand for audio products is huge. The consumer perceptions in India are changing rapidly and they are now more receptive to the products made in India. Further, India has the additional advantages like lower labor costs, English-knowing manpower, etc. India has the potential to become self-reliant in about 5-7 years if there is a sound ecosystem for manufacturing. While there are immense opportunities for Making in India, there are also some hurdles, for example, the plastics and many components are still being imported from China, Taiwan, etc.
What is your road ahead?
In IT and gaming segments, we are adding more categories and products. We plan to double our revenues in the FY2022-23.
