Oncam is a global independent manufacturer specialized in single-sensor 360-degree fisheye cameras and video surveillance technology. Oncam is a part of ONVU Technologies Group, a leading innovator in 360-degree and panoramic IP video technologies globally
In a candid conversation with NCN, Mr. Abhishek Kumar, Regional Director, South Asia, Oncam, discusses about the growth of the surveillance industry in India and the company’s mission to create modern and scalable solutions and the future trends.
Could you brief me about the new product C12 indoor & outdoor Plus and 05 Mini-Series?
Oncam, the provider of premium 360-degree video capture technologies, announced the introduction of its powerful and compact C-Series and the first two cameras of this line, the C-12 Indoor and the C-12 Outdoor Plus, both featuring a 12MP sensor and powered by Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
Our new C-12 Series is for indoor and outdoor purposes. The cameras come loaded with the market-leading frame rate of 55 fps at a full 9 MP resolution. We even offer the best-in-class performance of 25 fps with TrueDetail HDR. It accurately reveals the lost details in both dark and bright areas of the same scene. On both H.264 and H.265 streams, we save an average of 50% or more network bandwidth and storage requirements.
Oncam’s expertise in 360-degree IP video technology has gone into the C-12 Series leading to compact surveillance backed by a powerful camera. It has a multi-core CPU, high sensitivity, and a 12 MP sensor with a clean, modular, low-profile design for quick and intuitive installation. The devices also have support for both terminated and unterminated RJ45 cabling with an option for punch-down connectivity. These devices also come with a 3-year warranty.
On the other hand, our 05Mini Series is mini in size and available for indoor and outdoor purposes. Miniature in size, but vandal-proof and ready for any outdoor challenges. With a diameter of only 118mm (4,66”), the Evolution 05 Mini indoor and Outdoor is designed for quick and easy installations anywhere a professional lightweight enclosure is required. This camera brings the high-performance of the Evolution 05 Miniseries to environments where protection against harsh conditions is needed. Where it really differentiates itself is in its multiple certifications, including transport, water ingress and shock resistance.
The 05 mini-series uses 5 MP CMOS sensor, which offers detailed and crisp 360-degree images. A video stream of up to 30fps can be obtained, providing super smooth video movements while maintaining high-quality images. The camera has EN50155 / EN 45545 transport certification against shock and vibration in moving vehicles. Extensive VMS and NVR platform integration is available via the Oncam SDK.
Accessories include a sun shield that can be painted allowing the camera to blend into its environment. A multiple-entry conduit back-box can also be fitted behind the camera for neat installations, including pendant mounting.
For convenience, an Outdoor Pendant Kit is available, which includes a back box, sun-shield, and camera, all pre-assembled for ease of installation (EVO-05-LWK). These devices also come with a three-year warranty.
How far do you see the security market evolving in India?
Designed to support mission-critical video surveillance and security deployments, the Oncam C-Series provides the performance, resilience, scalability, and ease of use required of advanced 360-degree fisheye solutions
Indian video surveillance market has witnessed tremendous growth in recent years owing to rising security concerns, primarily arising from growing incidents of theft, domestic crime, and acts of terrorism. The development in infrastructure, increase in spending on security and growing awareness of people have been identified as the key drivers that could escalate the market growth in the coming years. Additionally, rapid infrastructural growth and reforms in the education and BFSI sector have also fuelled the demand for surveillance solutions. According to India CCTV Camera Market Outlook, 2021, the India video surveillance camera market is expected to grow with a CAGR of about 27.2% in the period from 2016 to 2021.
Technology-wise non-IP dominates the Indian market but in the coming years, IP is expected to take the lead. The Analog is in a depleting stage and its share is expected to be taken by IP technology and HD video surveillance camera. The IP-based video surveillance systems have now entered the market with compelling features such as high resolution, easy expansion of a number of cameras (scalability), lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and a higher Return on Investment (ROI). Due to increased government-sector acceptance of advanced surveillance, manufacturers have recognized the need for optimum IP surveillance systems. The advantages offered by an IP camera CCTV system over an analog format are numerous. IP security cameras transmit their signal over a network enabling greater transmission of information than an analog signal sent to a DVR. This serves as a major catalyst for the growth of IP Video Surveillance and VSaaS Market size.
How has the company provided service during the pandemic to customers?
Within the security landscape, massive changes are being observed due to the pandemic. Earlier, IP-driven cameras were already replacing their analog ones in India and abroad, owing to their wide-ranging advantages. The pandemic has significantly accelerated the trend. It has created a new fault line, wherein COVID-19-related regulations and guidelines have to be strictly followed. Unlike analog products, we can drive video analytics with IP-driven cameras, which can automate a lot of security functions. For example, given the pandemic, we can automatically detect instances such as mask-wearing and social distancing using them. This is adding to the capabilities of businesses and ensuring that their premises have adequate safety measures.
Explain how you custom tailor the products for different clients?
Oncam creates and deploys an open platform with specialized IP video and dewarping technology to create award-winning video-led solutions for stakeholders from C-suite to the security officer in multiple customer sectors. Oncam allows better decisions to be made based on real-world and digital data.
At Oncam, we leverage video de-warping technology to address these challenges. It enables us to achieve a 180-degree or 360-degree view with a single fisheye camera. It effectively reduces the device requirement by replacing 2 to 4 CCTV cameras with a single unit. At the same time, a similar effect is observed in terms of the network bandwidth. Taking our approach one step ahead, we also constantly innovate to ensure that maximum capabilities are achieved with our cameras. Oncam devices come with state-of-the-art features including industry-leading frame rates at high resolution, true detail HDR, and lower bandwidth requirement (up to 50% less). Our customers also enjoy StreamLite+ with our integrated VMS/NVR, wherein an additional efficiency of 20% is transferred with ColorMap compression. Our devices also can decrease bandwidth requirement by 90% when there is no motion. All of these features, on top of video analytics, make a significant impact for our customers for end-to-end security and surveillance use cases including the ones for the pandemic and business operations in general.
