mait_logoMAIT in association with the Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY) and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is organizing a one-day programme titled “India Standards: A strong ICT Nation” in Delhi on 31st July, 2014.

The day long program has been divided into four sessions namely, “Role of Standards in the ICT & Electronics Sector – Trends, Opportunities and Issues,”“Compulsory Registration Order – Experience and way forward,”“Market Surveillance, Quality Control and Inspection,”“Anti-Counterfeiting and Consumer Awareness.”The event aims to create awareness around internationally accepted best practices for ICT standards.

Commenting on this initiative, Amar Babu, President, MAIT, said “Industry has always been appreciative of the Compulsory Registration Order as it has helped to ensure elimination of sub-standard and unsafe electronic goods from the Indian market. However, for Indian IT industry to compete with the International world, there is a need for greater harmonization with global best practices”.

The programme has been supported by several international organisations such as Information Technology Council, Digital Europe, Taipei Computer Association and SESEI (seconded European Standardization Expert in India).

Anwar Shirpurwala, Executive Director, MAIT opines, “Government, in the recent past has taken many positive steps towards safeguarding the interest and safety of consumers. The Compulsory Registration Order has reasonably managed the menace of counterfeit products. However with ongoing implementation issues and the need for addressing future programmes, a focused coordination and partnership is needed between law enforcement agencies and the private sector”.
