In an interaction with Mr. Amit Luthra, Director & GM – Data Centre Solutions, Dell Technologies India about the storage market and  Dell EMC PowerStore, a modern infrastructure platform.

What are the current scenario of storage market in India as well as globally?

The changing market dynamics and evolving needs of the customers have accelerated conversations around digital and IT transformation. As a result, organizations, both in India and globally, have been forced to look at adopting new – age storage solutions to store, process and manage the humongous amount of data being generated. The government’s greater push towards Digital India mission and e-governance projects, coupled with the trend of various MNC’s setting up their local data centres, the storage market bound to grow. The recent IDC report on India’s external storage market stands as a clear testimony to it.  According to the report, the external storage market in India had witnessed a growth of 6% YOY, standing at USD 91 million in Q4 2019. Although, the current situation will act as a small barrier in this progress, but, we expect the market to still grow at a positive growth rate due to increased demands from sectors like healthcare, insurance and telecommunications.

What are the evolving needs of Indian enterprises w.r.t storage demand?

The combination of massive amount of data and unparalleled technology innovation is dramatically impacting the storage architectures, making legacy architecture redundant.

Data has become more diverse than ever before – and it is now being created, processed and stored everywhere, from edge to cloud. Hence, Indian organizations are focusing on deployment of storage solutions equipped with new features and capabilities, which will help them be future ready in this data era.

What Indian organizations, across sizes, are now demanding is a modern storage infrastructure which is cost efficient and is in-built with new-age technologies such as Machine Learning, Automation and AI etc. They are very well aware that with the power of these emerging technologies ingrained in their storage and other IT solutions, they will be able to optimize their performance and derive real time insights.

We at Dell Technologies understand these concerns and hence, PowerStore was developed to respond to all these expectations. We are excited for the role this product can play in both traditional storage and multi-cloud environments.

How Dell Technologies wants to empower their customers going ahead in the data decade with their comprehensive storage portfolio?

The combination of massive amounts of data and unparalleled technology innovation has given businesses of all sizes the opportunity to become disruptive, digital powerhouses. However, while keeping change at the core, the businesses should also be constantly asking themselves these two basic questions – how fast can they transform themselves and whether they are ready for their future requirements? Data has opened up newer avenues for businesses to grow and develop, but despite this potential, many businesses continue to struggle with two significant problems – first, the sheer amount of data being created daily, and second, the increasing pressure on IT to become more simple and agile.

Therefore, glancing at the future, every organization will aim to be a digital-first organization and for that they would need to transform their IT. We would continue to offer them the latest technologies, know-how, and experience to deliver new workload-optimized architectures to simplify IT.
