Cloudera empowers people to transform complex data into clear and actionable insights and delivers an enterprise data cloud for any data, anywhere, from the Edge to AI.

Every launch represents a big step forward for Cloudera towards implementation of our strategic plan to become a leader in the hybrid cloud space

Mr. Vinod Ganesan, Country Manager India, Cloudera during an exclusive interaction with NCN magazine, elucidates the relentless innovation undertaken by Cloudera for advancing digital transformation for the world’s largest enterprises.

What is Cloudera Data Platform?

Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) is a data cloud built for the enterprise. It enables businesses to leverage their data throughout the data life cycle in any cloud environment while also ensuring data security and lineage. This is because it embodies the capabilities of an enterprise data cloud that differs from other data platforms and analytics services.

CDP is a hybrid cloud data platform that provides maximum choice and flexibility with the option to manage, analyze, and experiment with data seamlessly across private and multiple public cloud environments. It allows Data lifecycle integration, CDP allows organizations to utilize multiple analytics together on the same data, eliminating costly and inefficient data silos. Moreover, CDP simplifies data security, governance, and control for diverse enterprise data on any cloud, even as data and workloads move between them, through shared data experience (SDX) technologies. SDX meets the needs for ever increasing regulatory compliance, reduces business and security risks in handling sensitive data as well as provides safe and agile self-service access to data and analytics.

CDP is 100% open source, open compute, open storage, and open for integration, enabling rapid innovation and protecting organizations from vendor lock-in.

The most valuable and transformative business use cases require multi-stage analytic pipelines to process enterprise data sets. It empowers businesses to manage and secure the end-to-end data lifecycle to drive actionable insights and data-driven decision making, unlocking the value of data.

CDP provides an integrated data platform that creates agility along lines-of-business while facilitating efficacy and security, enabling the entire organization to be more productive as they leverage their data to achieve business outcomes. As organizations react quickly to changing business requirements, CDP delivers mission-critical advantages offering greater flexibility as well as agility:

  • Hybrid and multi-cloud environments
  • Purpose – built and lifecycle analytics
  • Simple to use and secure by design
  • Open and extensible
  • For data engineers and data scientists
  • Faster time to value and better ROI/TCO

How does Cloudera help businesses and customize its solutions based on individual requirements?

Cloudera’s approach to customizing solutions for businesses lies in between giving them a fully assembled piece and a do-it-yourself flat-pack box. We recognize that customers want varying degrees of flexibility and control. For example, we have organizations that want to assemble their own data warehouse, their own machine learning, data engineering, and multi-stage data pipelines, and at the same time, want easy deployment of specific analytics without the overhead and effort associated with self-assembly.

This was a key consideration when we architected the CDP. For instance, one component of the CDP, Cluster Definitions, enables organizations to quickly create clusters by using one of the prescriptive cluster definitions included by default or by leveraging their own customized ones. The flexibility for IT teams to step into the advanced options and make any tweaks if necessary, is always there.

Authorized end-users can also build their own analytics clusters using CDP analytic experiences, which takes this a step further. The options are even simpler: select the required analytical capability (data warehousing and machine learning are soon joined by the rest of the data lifecycle analytics: data flow, data engineering, and operational database) and the desired t-shirt sized capacity (S/M/L). Again, advanced settings of aspects such as auto-scaling can be tweaked, if necessary, but the default settings work fine for most users.

Companies across several industries make use of Cloudera’s CDP, and our priority has always been to provide solutions that best meet their evolving business requirements. When it comes to business use cases, the possibilities are aplenty. From a developer-oriented approach to data and analytics to an enterprise-oriented solution-based focus, Cloudera takes customers on a personalized journey tailored to their data needs and business priorities.

What are the most common challenges enterprises face with hybrid cloud adoption? And how is Cloudera helping them accelerate their digital migration to the cloud?

Indian IT decision makers anticipated a shift toward hybrid multi-cloud in the near future.  A recent survey conducted by Cloudera found that 13% of IT decision makers reported currently housing their data and performance analytics in a hybrid environment but mostly on-premises. This trend is expected to change, with organizations (29%) being more likely to shift their data and performance analytics to a hybrid, multi-cloud architecture in the next 18 months. However, organizations continue to face the following common set of challenges like migration as enterprises may be migrating from a legacy system or a multicloud arrangement, switching to a hybrid cloud can be difficult and time-consuming. Because the company must verify that all data, apps, and workflows can function under a single system, migrating from a legacy system can be a resource-intensive operation. A multicloud system presents its own set of issues, as it necessitates the integration of many cloud services and all their features. Organizations must also decide whether to store their apps and data in a private or public cloud.

Organizations face cloud provisioning as organizations must decide the form of cloud provisioning (the distribution of a cloud provider’s services and resources) they want to use. This can take the form of cloud bursting, which is dynamic provisioning that scales up or down according on the demands of the business.

Security and governance is one of major challenge faced as security is extremely crucial in a hybrid cloud setup since critical/sensitive data may be moved from the private cloud to the public cloud. During transit, the data is vulnerable to assaults or breaches. Enough security measures must be implemented in the hybrid cloud architecture. Governance is also a factor that must be considered. Because a hybrid cloud combines many systems, it’s critical to have a platform that provides a unified view of the data lifecycle.

Cloudera helps businesses accelerate their digital migration to the cloud by breaking down the complexities of the extensive process. The strategic objective for moving to the cloud should be focused on driving more insight from data at the same time. This would call for an Enterprise Data Strategy. An enterprise data strategy can help companies do more with their data, which outlines the need for a cloud-native hybrid data architecture (known as enterprise data cloud) that is able to leverage data in this heterogeneous landscape. An enterprise data cloud, like Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) gives organizations the flexibility and agility to deploy their data and analytics as guided by their enterprise data strategy in the best way possible.

What are the industry trends in India about hybrid cloud?

Organizations are undergoing transformation both from a business as well as technology standpoint. And cloud computing has become essential in this process of digitally scaling up enterprises. According to areport by IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV), in the next three years alone, hybrid cloud among Indian businesses is expected to grow by 49% with the average organization using nearly six hybrid clouds. One of the biggest catalysts for the adoption of hybrid multi-cloud environments is emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing. Combined with a hybrid multi-cloud strategy, these technologies enable organizations to get the most out of both applications, making better, more informed business decisions.

While Edge Computing is becoming critical, it has been driving the growth of hybrid cloud adoption across sectors. As organizations continue to partially operate on remote working models, there’s data being generated and consumed from multiple locations. Digital infrastructure needs to be present at multiple locations to be able to support a business in the new working environment.

Another major trend in the hybrid cloud space is to do with managing security concerns, Just as applications and infrastructure evolve into a hybrid mix, so do security threats. A hybrid cloud approach to security and compliance starts to gain traction as businesses are looking for ways to get out of their security silos and unify strict consistent security, governance and control seamlessly across all environments.

What are the future of Cloudera in the India and APAC market as a whole?

The cloud industry is rapidly evolving, whether it’s new use cases, technology, or ways in which organizations might benefit. The potential that it could offer businesses and society is tremendous.

We have been making great progress in cementing Cloudera’s commitment to cloud. We’ve introduced a new storage certification for the Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) Private Cloud, ISO 27001 certification for the CDP Public Cloud, and our two newly acquired SaaS companies, Datacoral and Cazena. Each of these announcements represents a big step forward for Cloudera as we continue to implement our strategic plan to become a leader in the hybrid cloud space.

More recently, we are bringing new data protection capabilities to customers in some parts of APAC with the CDP Public Cloud Regional Control Plane. This capability is extended to customers in industries with high data protection needs by allowing them to govern their data in the region they operate and meet data protection needs in situations including restrictions of personal data across international borders.
