UTMs are commonly referred to as multifunction security appliances, capable of providing a multitude of integrated security services, such as firewall, IPS, VPN, web content filtering, data loss prevention and more. Here, Gartner states in the report, “UTM products must continually add new functions and therefore encompass the feature set of many other network security solutions, including next-generation firewall, secure Web gateway and secure email gateway.”
