Dixon Technologies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to set up a state-of-the-art facility for manufacturing HP-branded laptops and all-in-one PCs. With an investment commitment of ₹1,000 crore, the upcoming unit will be situated at Indospace Industrial Park in Oragadam, near Chennai, and is projected to generate employment for approximately 5,000 individuals.

This facility will be Dixon’s 24th manufacturing plant in India and its first major investment in Tamil Nadu. The initial phase will see an infusion of ₹250-300 crore, and the facility will be developed in stages. Strategically located in the Kancheepuram district, about 45 kilometres from Chennai, the plant will not only cater to HP but also serve as a multi-brand manufacturing hub. According to sources from the Tamil Nadu Industries Department, devices for three additional global brands will also be produced here, further enhancing the plant’s strategic relevance.

The new unit is designed to support modern, high-volume production, featuring automated assembly lines, precision soldering systems, and ESD-safe zones to maintain international quality standards. These technological advancements reflect Tamil Nadu’s commitment to creating a robust, world-class electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

This move is part of Tamil Nadu’s broader push to position itself as a national leader in electronics and IT manufacturing. The state, already India’s second-largest economy and top-ranking exporter in the sector, aims to build a $100 billion electronics manufacturing industry under the leadership of Chief Minister MK Stalin. This partnership with Dixon is a key milestone towards achieving that vision.

Beyond laptops, Dixon Technologies is expanding its footprint across the tech hardware spectrum. The company had previously announced a joint venture with Vivo India for smartphone production and is also exploring a $3 billion investment for a display fabrication facility. Additionally, Dixon’s recent collaboration with Dassault Systèmes to implement DELMIA Apriso solutions highlights its commitment to digital transformation in manufacturing.

As global supply chains shift away from China, Tamil Nadu’s proactive industrial policies and strategic partnerships place it at the forefront of India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, with the Dixon-HP collaboration serving as a cornerstone of this evolving narrative.
