Computer and Media Dealers Association (CMDA Pune) is the premier IT dealers’ association, uniting resellers through trust, growth, and strong industry leadership. During an exclusive interaction with NCN Magazine, Mr. Rahul Khurd, President, CMDA Pune, shares insights on CMDA’s growth, member strength, arbitration support, and cyber security awareness initiatives.
Can you briefly highlight CMDA Pune’s role and uniqueness in India’s IT industry?
Computer and Media Dealers Association (CMDA) Pune is one of the strongest and most respected IT associations in India. In fact, we are proud to say CMDA Pune is the number one IT association across India. What makes us truly different is that we are the only IT association in India that is ISO 9001:2015 certified. This reflects our commitment towards maintaining quality systems, transparency, and professionalism in everything we do.
We have built a powerful community of IT trade partners, ensuring trust, ethical practices, and growth for our members.
What is CMDA’s current membership strength, and member categories?
As of now, CMDA Pune has 417 members, and our member base continues to grow steadily. Our association includes a wide ecosystem of IT trade and business partners—such as OEMs, NDs, RDs, and SAIs, among other industry stakeholders. This mix of members makes CMDA a strong, well-connected association that supports the complete IT supply chain.
Could you detail CMDA’s membership criteria and verification process?
Membership at CMDA is taken very seriously because we want to maintain the credibility and integrity of the association. Every applicant must go through a thorough background check. We require two referrals from existing CMDA members. After receiving the membership form, we also circulate the details among our members to check if anyone has an objection regarding the applicant. If there is any valid objection, the membership request is rejected. This strict process ensures that only genuine and ethical partners become a part of CMDA Pune.
What are the key activities CMDA conducts for members throughout the year?
CMDA is very active and member-focused. Every year, we conduct around 25+ programs for our members. These include networking meets, industry discussions, knowledge sessions, workshops, and events that strengthen the IT community.
One of the biggest highlights is our annual IT Expo, which is a major platform for brands, distributors, and partners to connect and grow business. Besides that, we also conduct multiple initiatives focused on social responsibility and community welfare.
CMDA is known for arbitration support. How does this help members?
Arbitration is one of the strongest pillars of CMDA Pune. Whenever there are disputes related to payments, services, delivery issues, or other business concerns, members come to CMDA for support. We bring both parties together, review documents, listen to both sides, and then our committee gives a fair verdict.
What makes CMDA truly special is that we are the only association with a legal arbitrator status. We have an officially recognized arbitrator system, making our arbitration process legally strong, structured, and impactful.
What new initiatives are you introducing this year?
This year, we are introducing something meaningful and much needed—Cyber Security Awareness, which we call “Knowledge Charity.” Along with product charity, we want to contribute through awareness and education.
We will conduct cyber security awareness programs across Pune and PCMC, in various city pockets. We will visit big residential societies, use their halls, and conduct sessions with expert speakers where even police officials will address the audience. We also plan bigger awareness events with leading media houses like Sakal and The Times of India, bringing citizens from across Maharashtra together to learn and protect themselves from cyber fraud.
Cyber crimes are rising daily, and victims include everyone—housewives, professionals, even CAs. This initiative is our effort to protect society through knowledge.
Any message you would like to share with the IT community?
CMDA is a charitable organization and we work for the betterment of society and the IT community. I strongly appeal to all IT partners in Pune and PCMC to join CMDA, increase our collective strength, and contribute towards a stronger, safer, and more progressive IT ecosystem.
