“Managing and empowering employees with a security-savvy mindset has to be urgently brought to the top of corporate agenda,” said Dhanya Thakkar, Managing Director and Vice President, Trend Micro, Asia Pacific. “People, technology and processes play equally important role in ensuring the comprehensive security of enterprise networks. Big data, cloud computing, mobility and Internet of Things have met with unprecedented level of sophistication in cyber threats. Data breaches, ransomware and online extortion have emerged as the new risk factors threatening the well-being of enterprises today. Gartner has predicted that by 2020, 60 percent of digital businesses will suffer major service failures due to the inability of IT security teams to manage digital risk.

Nonetheless, despite the continuing rise in cyber threats, organizations are not taking actions fast enough. Trend Micro’s recent cybersecurity benchmarking survey revealed that less than one in ten companies in APAC fully understand how cyber-attacks are performed and close to 50 percent of companies do not have security awareness program, as a result, 59 percent attribute “employees’ lack of knowledge” as the biggest insider threat to cyber security.
